Cross-university lecture about emotions in Vienna

On December 9th, 2024, Doc. Bohuslav Binka visited the University of Vienna to deliver an insightful lecture titled “Benefits and Limitations of Existing Research on Emotions Related to the Climate Crisis.” The talk presented the latest research on emotional responses to the climate crisis, highlighting both the advantages and limitations of current studies. Doc. Binka also discussed potential future research perspectives aimed at understanding the long-term emotional and psychological impacts of climate change on human emotions and well-being.
The lecture was hosted by the Austrian project team, including Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andrea Möller, Linda Hämmerle and Veronika Winter at the Austrian Educational Competence Centre Biology (AECC Biologie). The team’s expertise and commitment to advancing research in climate education and emotional resilience were evident in the rich discussions that followed the lecture.
A particularly inspiring feature of the AECC Biologie is its wall of thought-provoking quotes, which serve as daily sources of inspiration for pre-service teachers.
Two of the most impactful quotes displayed are:
-
“Education is not the filling of a pot, but the lighting of a fire.” (William Butler Yeats)
-
“You cannot teach the same way you did yesterday to prepare students of tomorrow.” (John Dewey)
