9:30   What do we mean by climate action?

  • An interactive exploration of the elements that are commonly thought to be essential to climate literacy with a focus on climate action.

11:15   What leads to willingness to take action?

  • A review of several human behavior theories and analysis of survey data from U.S. high school students, with discussion of what would this mean for teacher preparation and instructional materials if students in Europe respond similarly?

1:30   Guidelines for Excellence from North America

  • An introduction to the Climate Action and Justice Guidelines for Excellence and opportunity to use them to critique existing materials.

  • Presentation of initial findings from interviews on research gaps by Miloslav Kolenaty. Discussion of additional gaps and how they can be filled by research, practice, and instructional materials.

  • Presentation of how OECD is working toward defining, supporting, and assessing climate literacy
